Not sure about this oneReviewed by Kimbo Slice, 2009-06-21
This product has many features, but I am not sure if they will work. Setup is going to be impossible for an older person, so do not send this to your parent and expect it to be used. The pendant must be pressed for a GOOD 5 seconds, or nothing will happen. I wonder whether my parent will be able to do this crucial step in a real emergency. Count to yourself slowly to 5 and think if you would be able to do this while on the floor injured from a fall or in a panic. The idea of a panic button is it's a button, not a SWITCH. Now, otherwise the unit has a major defect, so I will probably return it. The mic for the speakerphone doesn't work! The mic works, because I can record the emergency message. Why does it cut out when using the speakerphone? A very cool feature (if it works) is this is a speakerphone that can be answered by pressing the button. This phone needs a RINGER OFF switch. Old folks take naps just when the firemen or police or someone else calls for their annoying begathons. So, this cool phone will WAKE up the person taking a nap! That is a bad feature. This kind of product is designed and made in China, so they are sometimes missing the important design features, while including silly ones. I will probably send mine back for a new one to see if the speakerphone mic problem is resolved. If not, that is a FATAL flaw and I give this zero stars.
Performance problems unresolvedReviewed by BetNel, 2009-06-10
My siblings & I purchased this product Spring 2008 for our
elderly mother who is very stubborn & refuses to consider a
monitoring service. We hoped this phone would have some of the same
benefits without the stigma that it created in her mind.
Setup was extremely challenging even for the techies in our family.
I'm not sure if we got an old model or are just not as bright as
the other reviewers!
Based on our experience over the last year we DO NOT RECOMMEND this
product. It worked okay as a phone but it is way too expensive for
just that purpose. It did not serve the purpose it was purchased
for. Additionally, it had some operational quirks that limited its
performance as a phone.
The most annoying quirk was that after a 30 min conversation it
would start to beep & then disconnect the call. This beeping is
only supposed to happen in speaker phone mode - maybe as a
safeguard to having the phone off the hook from using the
pendant?
Other issues were that the programming was extremely time consuming
& more than a bit challenging (as stated above), the pendant
was difficult to operate as it requires a specific time to press -
too short & nothing happens, too long and nothing happens. For
a shaky elderly person that just didn't work.
As you may notice this review is in the past tense - the phone
finally quit working altogether. Mom is happy about that & I'm
not putting any more time into trying to get it to work. It was
just a bad product.
Works great. Perfect for our needsReviewed by Steve, 2009-03-19
My sisters and I purchased the Telemergency ClearVoice 200a for our
father and are very pleased.
The unit was delivered in working order and was straighforward to
use.
We had read the reviews and were concerned about programming. I
found it straighforward and consistent. That said, it is probably
beyond anyone that is frail enough to need this phone. Therefore,
give it to a grandchild and it'll be done in 2 hours or less.
While we are talking about programming, organization is the key.
Decide before you start on what the emergency message needs to be
and what numbers should be called. You can call up to 6 in the
order you specify. Once the person called acknowleges the message,
by pressing 0, it stops calling the others. I recommend that 911 is
one of the numbers, but not the first number. This will help reduce
false alarms.
Once the machine is programmed, the emergency features are
especially nice. Hold the button on the pendant for 5 seconds and
an alarm will sound. Once sounded, let go of the button and it will
call for help. On the call for help, it repeats the pre-recorded
message for 60 seconds and then calls the next number in the list.
Once at the bottom of the list, it starts over again.
Other features are too numerous to name, but well thought out and
useful.
Glad we bought thisReviewed by C. COLLINS, 2009-01-16
Since my elderly father is home alone during the day, between my son and my brothers, we agreed to order this product as a Christmas present for him. After he installed the phone, he called me to tell me the remote wouldn't work. After making a phone call to the distributer, who then referred me to the manufacturer, (of which my calls were returned immedately by both companies) the remote did work, and was not being held down for the 4 seconds, per the instruction manual. I would definately buy from GizmosForLife, as well as from Telemergency Ltd again.
The primary emergency calling feature does not work properlyReviewed by James E. Grabinski, 2008-08-29
The primary emergency calling feature dials the numbers as programmed but the emergency message which is heard loudly in the room with the phone cannot be heard on the other end of the line when the emergency call is answered. In a converation with the seller they promised to contact the manufacturer for a resolution but over 3 weeks have passed and they have not gotten back to me.
